Hey you, Meggy Lohr here!
Speaking on behalf of my mother and I:
Never in a million years did we think that we would take on this wonderful journey---and that within less than a year! In fact, building this wedding venue was really just a spontaneous on-taking. In the summer of 2018, while we were looking for wedding venues in Missouri for a place to hold my own wedding at, we quickly came to realize that there was not a lot to choose from. Searching for an upscale venue that was also in close proximity to Rolla became nearly impossible.
Knowing just how picky I am, I knew that I wouldn't find the perfect place without breaking the bank. We also came to realize that you really can't rent spaces early enough for you to get ready at in the morning and still celebrate late into the night as well. While running through different options with my family (whether we should travel to the city for a venue, have a "backyard wedding", or rent big tents), my mother jokingly said, "well, let's just build one ourselves!"
So fast forward to now, and you can see where we ended up at haha. Our original plan was to build one on our 160 acre farm. For 9 months we tried to get financing for this build as well as buy some more property for road-frontage. Whenever we thought we were moving forward, something would happen to where we were back to square one. Through lots of prayer, seeking God's guidance in this, an opportunity finally presented itself to us. I was scrolling through Facebook and found an old, two-story garage (a true fixer-upper) that was for sale. Within a weekend, we went to look at it and ended up buying the place.
By the time we finally were able to start working on it, we were 3 months out from my wedding. And just 2 weeks before the wedding we ran out of money. We worked 7 days a week doing what any contractor would have said was the impossible with the timeline we had. With everything that this building needed to be fixed up and ready for a wedding, we would have never made it in time without the help of the Lord. He has been in all the details (many of which would take too long to list here) throughout this entire process and we just want to use this platform as a testimony for how good our Father is. We envision that Sons and Daughters will be "A Wedding Place for His People" for years to come.
We hope that you fall in love with this place and everything it has to offer.
